Project 2 continued: Title Film Sequence

Now that I know what I am doing for my third project, I would like to get back to my second project and finish it before I work any more on my third one.

I now have an exact idea of what I will be doing for my second project, which images, texts and effects I would like to add:

Images: I posted up a few images of that had to do something with "identity"
After trying to put them into the sequence I realised that they were not looking professional, on the contrary they looked quite superfluous. I will only be using one image which is the main logo for the name of the movie and ofcourse the grey background. I want to keep the sequence simple and concentrate on the effects of the texts.

I have made up the names which I will be using- therefore can not explain -who the actors, writer or director are. My name appears as the producer of the movie.

Work on TvIdent so far:

I have now started the practical work on the Ident. I have started the project with my ending, which will be a moving MTV logo- from all sides- up and down in a really fast speed, it will be zooming in and out and moving around the frame at the same time and after a while it will stop on the upper right corner and stop.

Beginning of Project 3: TvIdent

As today is the last class of the module, I decided to leave my second project and start to work on my third one as I need to get some feedback on it and find out if I was on the right track!

Proposal:

MTV- TvIdent

I chose to produce a TvIdent for MTV as I think it would give me a chance to experience to create something quicker and more extravagant than my last two projects which are rather slow in speed. My Motto for this should be: BE CRAZY (which according to me suits MTV quite well)

I want the Ident to be approximately 30 seconds long and want the logo "MTV" to appear in the end after a few slogans describing the channel

The Ident should be colorful- the more colors I can put in- the better.

I also want a song to be added to the Ident: either a house song or a hip hop song.

Ideas: pictures of celebrities popping in and out, different soundtracks playing one after one (soundtrack should be very catchy)

Narrative: the Ident should suggest that MTV is up to date, diverse and LOUD

Effects: In this project I want to try to put more effects in that in my last two projects, this one should be very fast and extra- crazy

The logo needed a little bit of editing as I did not want the writing (which you can see on the previous picture) to appear.

I placed the logo right next to the the text "Reborn Identity" and made it fade in first then zoomed it in as made the grey metallic background fade out so the Logo would be centre of attention after the text disappears.

Now I have added a few more titles, like the name of the movie:

REBORN IDENTITY to which I have added 2 effects, one which makes it appear in a fast way and then a fill in effect of red which acts like a marker over the name to make it clear that the name which has just appeared is the movie's name.

Project 2: REBORN IDENTITY

Finally I have managed to chose something which I can see working out the way I want to.

Reborn Identity

I am really enjoying working on this sequence now. I started the sequence with the "20th century logo" to give the sequence a realistic touch. The only thing I did not manage to fix was the moving light. The logo has spotlights which normally move around but as I did not manage to do so, I decided to apply another effect. I made the picture lookfoggy so the fact that the lights do not move around does not look very obvious. The logo appears and fades out slowely and then the text starts.

First text I put in is: Unile Productions- which is a made up name, just like every other name I will be putting in the sequence

Unile Productions simply fades in and out and the background which I posted up previously fades in and out at the same time as the text

Next name: "DMG Productions" appears with an effect called "Typewriter" which according to me makes it look quite professional. First I tried to create a frame for each letter and keep a second gap in it - so it would give the text the typewriter effect- but soon enough I found the effect as a set effect which made it look more neat and accurate.

New Ideas for Project 2

After spending a lot of time working on Hitler's movie's Title Sequence I really got fed up with the topic and realised I would want to do something more light hearted and fun and not rather depressing. I know I have spent quite some time on it but I am willing to change it and invest time in something that will look more interesting. I have thought about producing a sequence that can include a lot of effects and which has a simple yet interesting touch to it. I had a look at a few title film sequences and liked the idea playing with the writing more than the background, therefore I would like to keep a simple background- something that just fades in and out after every frame and concentrate myself one text- which is more important in a title film sequence anyway.

I want to produce a Title Film Sequence for a Spy film called "Reborn Identity" which reminds everyone of "The Bourne Identity" perhaphs and suggests the genre which Spy Film. It should all have a metallic and "new/modern" look.

I want to use the following colours in it: grey, black, white and a little bit of red

Project 2 continued

I have spent 3 hours today to make the Hitler Film Sequence look interesting, which has been quite a challenge as the topic itself does not interest everyone and therefore needs a lot of interesting effects and things to light up the topic, which again would be inappropriate at the topic is something very serious and putting in a lot of "funky" effects would not go with the theme.

What exactly I tried was to put in a text at the beginning saying:

"Arbeit macht frei" - Work brings freedom

and after that message pops up and fades out slowely a picture of Hitler's face appears..and this is where I would like to add a soundtrack

After Hitler's faces dissappears I added "a movie about Hitler's rise in Germany" which again fades out and the video starts to play in the background while the titles appear..

Now I tried to put in some effects to make it look more interesting: this is where I am having problems- A title sequence about a serious historical movie would not have any interesting effects..

I have now put together the images from my last post in After Effects and realised it would better to put in a video which I came across while doing my research:

In class I managed to do so with Fleeta's Help. We downloaded Firefox in order to download the youtube video and put it into After Effects which was a bit of a long proccess.

I was quite satisfied with the end result of the video being displayed as my background after fading it out a little bit.

Project 2 difficulties

The idea mentioned before does not seem realistic to me anymore. I have been trying to find the time to ask friends who are ready to shoot and also organising a camera, it all seems very time consuming so I am reconsidering my idea

Introduction of Project number 2: TITLE FILM SEQUENCE

After completing my Banner I started working on the second project which is to produce a Title Film Sequence.

First Ideas: have a short video (30 secs) of two friends: laughing, walking, talking, eating etc etc

The movie: romantic comedy, story of two best friends and their love lifes..

Theme: light hearted song, use of simple effects, not very speedy, video should be the most interesting part about the sequence.

How do I start? Find to people who are willing to act in the video and find a good video camera

Last Text of the same style

Ending of my banner

Having a look at it again, it seems to me that the ending does not look good enough. I tried to add something to it and this is my idea: a text saying "NOW AVAILABLE WORLDWIDE" which should appear next to the bottle and the name of the bottle so it sends out a message to the people looking at the banner.

For this text I have used a "fill in" effect to make it more shiny

In my previous post I mentioned what I had done so far

Now I have added the ending of the banner which includes the name of the new fragrance and the bottle:

"J'Adore"

I have used the golden font for the name as I am producing an ad for an existing brand and fragrance, therefor keeping the design and colour the same seems important to me.

Inserting the bottle into a horizontal banner was a bit challenging as it can easily end up looking like a random shape. I tried out a few images until I found this one which has a really qood quality therefore looks like an obvious bottle. I hope one can recognize the bottle in the banner.

The heart moving from right to left does not look professional- so I am going to try to put autumn leaves in the background which move..I want to use the horizontal moving effect while the text comes in:

Working with After Effects

I have been working with CS3 for a couple of days now and finding it a bit challenging.

In class we learnt how to create and move shapes, insert texts and use effects.

What I tried today was to make a shape of heart move from the right side of the banner to the left side. As a background I used a lotus flower which gives the banner a feminin and soft look.

The heart is pink which goes with the background. After a few trials I managed to make the heart move. As I started to notive how I was developing my CS3 skills which worked as a motivation and made me work on the banner for quite a long while. My aim now is to add some other pictures, texts and try out different effects.

Web Banner Proposal

The J’adore advertisement I produced is to be displayed at the website: “http://www.worlddutyfree.com/”. The website is a good platform for people from all over the world to explore the world of cosmetics and fragrances; this is why I would like the J’adore banner to be advertised there. The audience for it would mainly be females of 16 years and above or anyone who likes buying perfumes as presents. The fact that I have chosen worlddutyfree.com, which is a website people from all over the world who are interested in shopping at the duty free shop visit makes the audience really broad.

I would like to advertise a perfume by a company in my banner.

Which company: Dior? Chanel?

Final idea: A banner for Dior, advertising a new fragrance called "J'adore".

What do I want to include in my banner: a good slogan, nice effects, the name of the brand plus the new fragrance and the bottle of J'adore.

Which colors will I be using: gold (as the bottle of j'adore is gold), black, yellow?

I want an atmosphere to be created in my banner: automn, romance, sensual - which shapes, images will I be using? Hearts? Leaves? Lotus Flower?

Introduction

This Blog will contain all my research, information, pictures and music which I will be using for my portfolio of 'Motion Graphics'. Motion Graphics is my practical module of the term and the portfolio which I will be creating contains three projects which will be created with the programe "After Effects CS3". The first project will be a Banner which will contain Motion (movements), the second is a Title Film Sequence including motion and Sound and my last project will be a TV IDENT which will also contain motion and sound. The deadline of the portfolio is on the 22nd of January 2010 and will be 70% of the final mark. I will now start adding all my ideas, concepts and inspirations to this blog and hope you will enjoy following it.
